This is a stunning high quality yew and glass  Bookcase with drawers and brushing slide. It was made by George Strachan & Sons Ltd, Leeds around 1970 as a reproduction and has a lovely classical antique Georgian style design.

On the back of the unit is the original maker's and retailer's label and number of the piece.

The unit is in very good condition and has a distinctive rich yew grain and lovely patina.

The top of the cabinet has a beautiful detailed beaded moulding, two cathedral style glass doors with lock and key. Each of the glass doors features a lovely astragal moulding on the outside of the cabinet and the glass panels on the inside are leaded.

Inside the glass bookcase it has 3 shelves which can be positioned at different heights and one base shelf.

The lower section of the bookcase comprises of three graduating rebated drawers and a pull out brushing slide which forms a shelf/writing desk. (A brushing slide is a retractable shelf which can be pulled out to form a surface to fold or brush clothes on or that can be used for writing on.)
